Colorado State quarterback Caleb Hanie took all of his usual work in practice Tuesday, although coach Sonny Lubick said earlier in the day Hanie might be limited by a sprained ankle.

Hanie had no noticeable limp in practice for Saturday’s home game against Nevada-Las Vegas.

Hanie played the entire game last weekend at Fresno State and made no mention of a sprained ankle afterward.

“According to the trainer, he said we should take a minimum amount of reps,” Lubick said Tuesday. “He should be 100 percent by Saturday if we’re smart enough as coaches not to overdo his practice during the next three days.”

Wide receiver Damon Morton, who caught one of Hanie’s three touchdown passes last weekend, said Hanie’s “ankle is a little sore, but he’s taken plenty of big hits and I’m not too worried.”

Backup quarterback Billy Farris has played only against Weber State and hasn’t thrown a pass this year. Redshirt freshman Grant Stucker, who missed most of the preseason camp because of a lower abdominal injury, has returned to practice.

Lubick said safety Ben Stratton (neck) is mulling his options for treatment and will miss at least another week.

Reduction of Rebels

UNLV reserves Malo Taumua, a freshman nose tackle, and Prince Brown, a defensive lineman not listed on the depth chart, were suspended for Saturday’s game by Rebels coach Mike Sanford.

Both came off the bench last weekend to participate in a late- game fracas against Nevada.

“We don’t condone that behavior in this program and it’s not something we want identified with UNLV football,” Sanford said.

San Diego State also suspended two players for a similar incident at San Jose State.
