Crochet is cool
“Brown is the new black and crochet is the new knitting!” We couldn’t have put it any better than the Denver Public Library, which this week starts offering beginner crochet classes, providing a free opportunity to get in on the latest hip hobby (before it moves on to macrame). Classes, at the central branch, are four sessions long and run through November. Register at denverlibrary.org/fresh

Narrowing it down
We’re not sure what questions the dating service “It’s Just Lunch” asked to get these results in a recent poll. But they might offer some insight for folks in the dating game. In all, they questioned 5,876 unmarrieds.
What are singles looking for? Somebody hot.
81 percent of singles say they want their significant other to be an 8 or a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10
What are they offering? Plenty, at least in their eyes.
50 percent of women say Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey in “Grey’s Anatomy” is the TV character whose attitude most mirrors their own, 44 percent of men say their attitude mirrors Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer in “24.”
What’s getting in the way? Annoying mates.
25 percent of women say what bothers them most is a man who smothers them and tries to spend every second of the day with them, 38 percent of men say a woman who nags about everything bothers them the most.

Miata’s hot new top
The Mazda Miata convertible was always a hot car, but a bit – how should we put it – precious. The MX-5’s new retractable, hard-top roof, however, gives it a serious “guy car” rush. The top is the same color as the body, so it doesn’t even look like a
convertible when it’s in place. But when the roof goes down – which only takes a button push and 12 seconds – it’s the kind of sporty roadster other drivers stare at with envy.
