Steve Ziegler, who won his second consecutive Class 5A boys golf championship Tuesday at Pinehurst Country Club, has been named a scholastic junior All-American by the American Junior Golf Association and Hewlett Packard.

Ziegler, a senior at Legacy in Broomfield who will attend Stanford next season, is one of 12 schoolboys honored nationally. The 12 finished in the top 10 of an AJGA event and received good grade-point averages and high scores on the ACT/SAT, performed community service and demonstrated writing ability.

He is eligible to participate in the Polo Golf Junior Classic Nov. 18-24 at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.

At Grandview, Cole Leonida, a catcher, will play next season at Georgia Tech.

Leonida was 5A all-state honorable mention in 2005 by The Denver Post.

At Regis, Mindy Nielson will play basketball next season at BYU.

Nielson, whose brother, Jake, helped Grandview to the 5A state semifinals last season, was an intricate part of the Regis team that finished state runner-up in 4A in 2005-06. She was 4A all-state honorable mention by The Denver Post.
