One day after several school security warnings and lockdowns across the metro area, no arrests have been reported and no one was harmed, officials said.
Authorities were pleased with the precautions taken Thursday when a series of threats were reported. Already, some schools are promising additional security measures in the wake of the Platte Canyon High School shootings Sept. 27.
“I think our schools are being more sensitive to threatening calls,” said Marlene Desmond, spokeswoman for Jefferson County Public Schools.
Within Jefferson County, Manning School and Maple Grove Elementary were back on normal schedules after someone made an unspecified threat, Desmond said.
“Nothing came of it,” she said.
Horizon High School and seven other elementary and middle schools in Thornton returned to normal schedules Friday after a bomb threat was called in, said Thornton police spokesman Matt Barnes.
No bomb was found, and police do not have any suspects, Barnes said.
In Colorado Springs, security personnel made additional rounds Friday at Sand Creek High School after a parent, who is a Fort Carson soldier, made “aggressive” comments to a school resource officer, principal Mike Collins said.
The school was placed on lockdown Thursday, but school officials contacted Fort Carson, where military officials promised to speak with the parent, Collins said.
School officials have been discussing measures that would increase security at the school, Collins said, including adding more cameras and hiring more security staff members. They would have to present their ideas for budget approval, he said.
A student at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora who joked about shooting students at nearby Smoky Hill High School was interviewed by police, but it was determined his threat was not serious, said Tustin Amole, spokeswoman for the Cherry Creek school district.
The boy’s family was already moving and he did not return to school, Amole said. No arrests were made.
Also on Thursday, reports at Northglenn High School that students were fighting with kids from possibly Thornton or Adams County turned out to be false, Northglenn officials said Friday.
