No one owns the breeze, and that makes the wind that swirls around the globe the perfect metaphor for the annual One Sky One World Kite Fly for Peace, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. today at Sloan’s Lake Park, West 18th Avenue and Meade Street in Denver.

You can bring your own kite, buy one at the festival or make your own sled kite from a paper bag during one of the kids kite-

making workshops. If the weather cooperates, as many as 300 kites could be in the sky at any one time during the celebration, says Jane Parker-Ambrose, who inspired the global festival with her gift of a kite to the Soviet Women’s Peace Committee in 1985.

This year’s event includes a Pet Parade at 11 a.m., led by Earth Day founder John McConnell and his wife, Anna. McConnell will discuss his vision of Earth’s future at 1 p.m.

Expect entertainment, food booths and vendors pitching sustainable living. And like the wind, the festival is free.
