Glenn Myernick, an assistant coach for the U.S. soccer team and a former head coach of Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, was in intensive care today following a heart attack.

Myernick, who collapsed Thursday, was at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton and had not regained consciousness, former U.S. Soccer Federation president Bob Contiguglia said.

Contiguglia visited Myernick and said several Colorado players also were there.

The 51-year-old Myernick, nicknamed “Mooch,” coached the Rapids from 1997-01, became an assistant to U.S. coach Bruce Arena in 2002 and also coached the U.S. Olympic team from 2002-2004, when it failed to qualify for the Athens Games.

A winner of the 1976 Hermann Trophy while at Hartwick College, he made 10 appearances for the U.S. national team from 1975-79.
