In all the hubbub surrounding the new wing, don’t forget that a painting hanging at the Denver Art Museum since 1972 has been selected as the 2006 Christmas stamp. The postage-stamp version of Ignacio Chacón’s “Madonna and Child With Bird” will be officially unveiled at the museum Oct. 17 at 10:30 a.m., when day-of-issue commemorative stamps will be available only in Denver. Show up, see the stamp, then head up to Level 4 in the Gio Ponti building to see the painting, a jewel in the Spanish Colonial Art collection.

There’s no better way to get to know a new neighbor than over a cup of tea or coffee. Peet’s Coffee & Tea, the new kid on the 16th Street Mall, makes it even better by pouring the joe (and tea) for free, 1-3 p.m. daily through Oct. 22. If you purchase something from the Denver store on a Friday, through Oct. 22, you’ll also get a complimentary 1/4-pound bag of beans or ground coffee.

Everything you need (and a full line of cute Le Creuset cookware) is packed into this crowded but navigable shop just a couple of blocks off Interstate 25 near downtown. Pots and pans, gadgets, cookbooks and gourmet ingredients share shelf space with an excellent collection of knives. Best of all, the chatty staff is full of smart kitchen tips.
This story has been corrected in this online archive. Originally, due to a reporting error, it reported an incorrect amount of coffee Peet’s Coffee on 16th Street was giving away for free with a purchase on Fridays through Oct. 22. The quanity is 1/4 pound.
