TUNING IN TO TUNE OUT| If you haven’t considered bringing an iPod to your next colonoscopy, maybe you should. Researchers in Philadelphia found that patients who piped in their favorite tunes during the procedure (ear buds were taped to their ears!) required less sedation while reporting equal tolerance of discomfort. The findings are based on a study of 44 women and 29 men that was presented this year at a national meeting of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. |The Washington Post

BUFF BUFFS AND PIONEERS TOO| The University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Denver are among the country’s fittest colleges, according to Men’s Fitness magazine’s second annual survey of nearly 12,500 students at 115 colleges and universities. CU was No. 6 and DU was 22 in the rankings of the top 25 schools, which were judged on physical education requirements, recreation center amenities and range of healthful choices in its dining halls. Among the “fattest” rather than the fittest were the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of New Orleans. Details at mensfitness.com.
