Colorado College junior left wing Scott McCulloch was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association offensive player of the week, and University of Denver sophomore defenseman Chris Butler garnered the defensive honor.
McCulloch had four goals in the Tigers’ 8-1 home-opening victory over Alabama-Huntsville last Saturday. He produced a natural hat trick (three consecutive goals) within a span of 21:53 in the first and second periods before adding his NCAA-leading fourth tally in the third period.
Butler scored a goal in each of DU’s two games last weekend at the Ice Breaker Invitational at Miami (Ohio). He also blocked four shots and contributed five hits in the weekend split against Miami and Colgate.

D’Evelyn’s Hooper commits to Pioneers
It’s a big country, but everything Andrew Hooper wanted was a mere 20 minutes away. So the 6-foot-9 senior at Jefferson County’s Class 4A D’Evelyn has orally committed to play basketball at DU.
“I traveled a lot in the summer, so I thought that I might as well stay home, too,” Hooper said Tuesday. “I’ve got a younger brother and sister, and would rather play in front of them than my family having to watch me on television.”
Hooper will sign with the Pioneers next month during the early period. Averaging 14 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots as a junior, he was second-team 4A all-state by The Denver Post. Locally, Air Force and Colorado also showed interest.
“If Andrew develops as he might, he’s just a freak athletically,” D’Evelyn coach Troy Pachner said of Hooper, also an accomplished jumper in track and field. Hooper has a 3.0 grade-point average and is undecided on a major.

Crush signs three players
The Colorado Crush added three players, signing fullback Terrell Browden and defensive linemen Quinn Dor- sey and Justin Parrish.
Dorsey played football at Manual High School and was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New England Patriots in 2004. He also spent three years on the practice squads of the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans. Browden spent last season with the af2 Birmingham Steeldogs, where he rushed for 115 yards and had six touchdowns. Parrish played at Kent State, where he is the all-time career leader in sacks with 27 1/2.
