Getting your player ready...

Who: Tierney Pennick of Parker with two Fijian warriors

Where: At the Shangri-La Fijian Resort on the island of Viti Levu, just after the daily sunset torch-light ceremony.

Best meal: The Fijian provides a complimentary breakfast buffet to all guests that has everything you could wish for, from eggs and pancakes to amazing quantities of fresh fruit (pineapple, papaya, watermelon, mango), yogurt, cereal and still-warm croissants and pastries.

Best deal: There is a complimentary Kids Club at the Fijian that provides a variety of activities and sports all day, every day – while parents get some alone time, kids are entertained and learn about Fijian culture. Babysitting is also available on the grounds from the friendliest staff we have ever seen at very low prices (about $2.50 an hour)

Best time to go: It’s drier from April through October. November through March is the rainy season, when the words “torrential downpour” take on a whole new meaning.

Best travel tip: Fiji is a nation of more than 300 islands, of which Viti Levu is the largest, and is home to two international airports. There are various boat/seaplane/helicopter transports available to take you to outlying islands that have incomparable snorkeling and scuba diving. After our stay at the Fijian, we spent a week at Castaway Island and enjoyed a more intimate atmosphere with great service and awesome food. Do a Web search to find the island with the best facilities, amenities and prices for you.
