A 24-year-old Aurora man appeared in Arapahoe County court today after being arrested on suspicion of text-messaging a 12-year-old girl to have sex with him.

Brandon Johnson was arrested Friday evening when he showed up to meet the girl, only to have Aurora police waiting for him.

Police said Johnson began text-messaging the girl last week. She told her mother, who began communicating with Brandon. When the mother realized the sexual content of his replies, she contacted police.

An officer from Aurora’s Crimes Against Children Unit began using the girl’s cell phone to text-message Johnson, urging him to a rendezvous Friday evening. Police said the messages to Johnson emphasized the fact that the girl was only 12 years old, which he acknowledged.

Johnson is being held in Arapahoe County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He is charged with using the Internet to lure a child and attempt to commit sexual assault on a child, both felonies. Arraignment is scheduled for Friday.
