Denver is about to get a big dose of Tenacious D – Jack Black and Kyle Gass’ gloriously vulgar two-man band, a.k.a. “The Greatest Band on Earth.”

Their upcoming movie, “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny” will be screened at the Starz Denver Film Festival. It’s unrated. Seems that Tim Robbins, who is slated to be in town for the John Cassavetes Award, has a cameo in the movie, so he’ll make a cameo appearance at its fest screening on Nov. 16. Robbins loves Black and the band, so he was happy to support it when the fest asked him.

Then Black comes to town in person Nov. 22 with Tenacious D at the Fillmore. Tix on sale.

If things were skedded a little closer, we could have had The D play the festival – and no one would have survived the night. The movie will be gross enough.

Cheers!

Modern Drunkard, Denver’s least PC magazine, celebrates 10 years in the biz in its current issue.

Editor/publisher/founder Frank Rich answers the questions everyone is asking in the mag. Here are a few shots.

“What must have possessed you to think you could get away with publishing something called ‘Modern Drunkard Magazine?”‘

Rich: “If I remember correctly it was Jim Beam.”

“What’s with all the typos? Don’t you have any proof readers?”

Rich: “We have 100-proof readers. Here’s the deal – the proofers are all enthusiastic drinkers, and when they get together to proof, they naturally start drinking. And for all the benefits of alcohol, it does not lend you a keen eye for detail.”

“How can you drink so much and still put out a magazine?”

Rich: “Where the devil did people get the idea that drinking somehow gets in the way of production?”

“Don’t you feel terrible about what you’re doing?

Rich: “Nope. In fact, we feel pretty nifty about the whole thing.”

Congratulations drunkards. Bottoms up to another decade.

Get out of bed!

How would you like Christie Brinkley to wake you up in the morning with a little pillow talk? How ’bout Mayor John Hickenlooper?

I’ll take Brinkley, thanks, even if she wants a divorce.

The recorded personal wake-up calls are being offered in Hyatt hotels, including the two in downtown Denver. Brinkley tells you to get out of bed, as breakfast and the gym may await you. Hick welcomes you to another beautiful day in the city. Or you can get your family to record a wake-up call.
