A mother was cited for suspicion of child abuse because her 17- month-old son got drunk after drinking wine, 9News reported Thursday.

Lisa Shattuck, 38, of Erie faces charges of criminally negligent child abuse. She took her son to the emergency room at Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette on Sunday night after she noticed he was not acting right.

Erie police said the toddler had a blood-alcohol level of 0.195 percent and is described in the police report as being “very sick.”

Shattuck told police her son accidentally drank some wine. Shattuck told 9News she feels as if she did the right thing by taking her son to the hospital right away after he became unresponsive.

The boy’s father said there were two glasses of wine sitting out, but their son “could not have consumed very much.”

The parents’ story did not add up, said Lt. Lee Mathis with Erie police.

The toddler was released from the hospital Monday, and Shattuck says he is doing fine.

Shattuck is scheduled to appear in court on the misdemeanor child abuse charge this month. She said she has an attorney and will fight the charge.
