Zaidy’s Deli: “Can you get this? I’ve got an audition,” said owner Jason Rudofsky over his shoulder as we walked in. With that, the charming and funny Heather Adams took over our table after being “slammed” all morning. By our 2 p.m. lunch, the downtown deli was all but empty after a noontime rush, but Adams served our iced tea, latkes and grilled cheese sandwich with a side of pickles, sauerkraut and good humor. She didn’t even roll her eyes when I asked for light sour cream. (They don’t have any.) Now that’s a good actress. |15th and Lawrence streets, 303-893-3600; 121 Adams St., 303-333-5336|Kristen Browning-Blas

Edible wedding dress: We know of the croquembouch as a wedding cake but until now had never contemplated a pyramid of cream puffs draped in caramel as a wedding dress. In an especially sweet gesture, Ukranian bridegroom Valentyn Shtefano constructed an edible frock for his bride, Viktoriya, from 1,500 cream puffs. You’ve got to wonder if she asked her betrothed, a rising star in the field of pastry as visual art, “Does this make me look fat?”|Dana Coffield

Cru Wine Bar: This Larimer Square spot has a terrific wine list. But what’s wine without cheese? Cru boasts a suite of thoughtful cheese flights, including an American grouping featuring a nutty jack cheese from California, a sharp Vermont cheddar and a creamy
West Coast goat cheese. Each flight is expertly paired with wines. | 1442 Larimer St., 303-893-9463 | Tucker Shaw
