Emily Hoeper of the University of Denver women’s golf team shot a 6-under-par 66 on the 6,259-yard Salt Creek Golf Club course at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, leading the Pioneers to a 17-shot lead after the first round Monday.
Hoeper’s score was a school record. She leads the 113-player field and has a three-stroke lead over teammate Stephanie Sherlock. Denver leads with 279 points, with BYU at 296 and Cal-Irvine at 301.
Willis hired to athletics development at DU
The University of Denver hired Robert G. Willis to the position of assistant vice chancellor for development for the athletic department, vice chancellor for athletics Peg Bradley-Doppes said.
Willis worked as assistant vice president of corporate and foundation relations at the University of Colorado. He was also president and CEO of the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce for more than two years.
AFL’s Crush sign four to training camp roster
The Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League signed four players to their roster, including kicker Jason Ball and rookie free agents Bobby Antee, a defensive back; offensive lineman Joey Hollenbeck; and wide receiver Jim Lukowaik. The Crush has 28 names on its roster. The AFL allows 37 players in training camp and 24 players on a regular-season roster.
