DENVER – The Medal of Honor Society, composed of the nation’s most honored military heroes, has selected Denver as the host for its September 2008 annual convention, the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce announced last week.
Of the 3,442 recipients awarded the Medal of Honor since 1863, only 111 are alive. At least five living recipients have Colorado ties.

Denver-based Simpson Housing has hired Brad Broyhill as president and chief operating officer. Broyhill will be responsible for overall operations of Simp son, one of the country’s largest privately held owners, managers and developers of apartments.

Star Market to reopen at a new location
Star Market and Catering owner Michael Schettler said Monday he will reopen the company in the former Stick-e-Rice location at 2070 S. University Blvd. The market was forced to relocate from its former space around the corner at South University Boulevard and East Evans Avenue because that site was being razed for redevelopment.

MarkWest offering $75 million in notes
MarkWest Energy Partners, a Denver-based natural-gas producer, on Monday started a private-placement offering of $75 million in senior debt notes.
The notes, with an 8.5 percent interest rate, are due in 2016. Proceeds will repay debt under its secured bank credit facility, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Bill Barrett CFO quits to start new venture
Bill Barrett Corp. announced that chief financial officer Thom as B. Tyree Jr. will resign effective Nov. 17 to begin a new oil- and-gas venture.
“This was an extremely difficult decision to make, but an opportunity to be a founder of a new company was too hard to pass up,” Tyree said in a statement Monday.
