Who: Mas and Sally Yasimura of Arvada
Where: Picture taken in Volosko, a fishing village located on the beautiful Adriatic cost. We walked 1.5 miles on the seaside promenade to Volosko from our hotel in Opatija for dinner. The promenade winds along the Adriatic Sea for 7.5 miles between the towns of Preluka and Lovran and offers panoramic views of the sea and surroundings. It passes 19th-century villas and many of the significant buildings between the towns including our hotel. Opatija is often called the Niçe of the Adriatic.
Best meal: We ate at a restaurant called Ivka in Volosko. We had a grilled seafood dinner for two consisting of seabass, scampi, calamari and mussels with a side of spinach and potatoes and a carafe of wine for about $40. It was an excellent dinner, very reasonable, and the service was good.
Best time to go: Late spring or fall. We went in July, and it was hot and humid for Coloradans.
Best travel tip: Take moisture-wicking clothes whenever possible. These will dry overnight if you wash them.
Best deal: You will find locally made crafts at reasonable prices. Examples are embroidery, lace and coral jewelry. Good local wines and seafood lunches and dinners were bargains.
