COMMERCE CITY

Fired city manager

to receive $154,709

Commerce City will pay its former city manager $154,709 as part of a severance package approved Monday night.

The payment was part of former City Manager Perry VanDeventer’s contract, which called for him to receive one year’s pay plus a year of medical and dental benefits upon his resignation.

VanDeventer resigned in August at the request of the City Council.

VanDeventer had been criticized for excessive spending on travel and a city-owned sport utility vehicle he drove.

The Adams County district attorney’s office and outside lawyers are reviewing claims that VanDeventer received preferential treatment from the Police Department in driving incidents involving him.

Commerce City Mayor Sean Ford said the city is conducting a national search for a new city manager.
