Frontier Airlines has issued a request for proposals to communities seeking regional jet or turbo-prop service.
The Denver-based airline said today it issued the requests this week to more than 50 communities throughout Colorado and within a radius of about 1,200 miles from Denver.
The move comes as Frontier starts a new subsidiary to operate flights with 74-seat Bombardier Q400 turbo-prop planes it has ordered for service to start mid-2007. Frontier also plans to expand its fleet of 70-seat regional jets to as many as 20 aircraft and is seeking a new regional jet service operator to replace Horizon Air.
The turbo-props and regional jets are both smaller than Frontier’s “mainline” Airbus jets that seat 114 or 132 passengers.
Frontier also announced today it will launch a daily flight between San Francisco and Las Vegas Dec. 14, expanding its presence in California.
