ARVADA – The city of Arvada recently broadened its ordinance dealing with dangerous animals.
Instead of banning a specific breed of animal, the city replaced its designation of “vicious animal” with “dangerous animal.”
A dangerous animal is defined as an animal that, without intentional provocation, causes bodily injury to any person, approaches any person in a menacing or terrorizing manner or in an apparent attitude of attack, or kills another animal while off the owner’s property.
An owner or custodian of an animal convicted of a code violation may be required to provide proof of liability insurance of at least $100,000 to cover any damage or injury.
A section has been added to the code addressing habitual offenders, who accumulate three convictions for separate and distinct offenses.
The new ordinance goes into effect Oct. 30.
