Former Otero Junior College coach Jen Fisher, a Fort Collins native, will be the first softball coach at Metro State when the season begins next spring, Roadrunners athletic director Joan McDermott said Wednesday.

Fisher spent the past eight seasons at the junior college in La Junta, winning seven straight Region IX championships and two district titles, advancing to the junior college national tournament in 2005 and 2006. She played softball, basketball and tennis at Rocky Mountain High School and was female athlete of the year in 1990. She played softball at Creighton and Colorado Mines.

McGann to oversee CU’s game management

Tom McGann, the University of Idaho’s acting assistant vice president of auxiliary services, will take over the new position of director of game management and operations for the University of Colorado, athletic director Mike Bohn announced Thursday. McGann starts his job Oct. 25.

Wyoming forward signs with UNC

Lara Merritt, a 6-foot-1 forward at Cheyenne East, said she would sign a letter of intent to play basketball at Northern Colorado. Merritt said UNC’s decision to hire Jamie White, a former Wyoming assistant coach, as head coach pushed her toward the Bears, who finished 13-15 last year.
