COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Black/Latino Leadership Coalition expressed disappointment Tuesday that Doug Lamborn, the Republican candidate in the 5th Congressional District, will not show up for a Thursday debate against Democrat Jay Fawcett.

“We simply find it inexcusable that Mr. Lamborn would choose to snub the only combined Black/Latino Republican/Democrat group in Colorado Springs,” said Joe Barrera, co-chair of the group. “The coalition is an educational group, does not endorse any candidate, and we are neutral on the issues.”

Jon Hotaling, campaign manager for Lamborn, said he told the leaders of the coalition that Lamborn had a previously scheduled meeting and he would like to meet with the group in the future. Lamborn is scheduled to meet Thursday with abortion foes, Hotaling said.

Willie Breazell, a member of the Colorado Springs School District 11 School Board who is also co-chair of the group, said: “The Black/Latino Coalition does not want to be taken for granted by politicians and we do not want to be ignored. We vote and we are a force in determining elections.”
