Police were searching Friday evening for a man who may have been involved in a drive-by shooting, two car thefts and a chase north of Denver.
A man suffered minor injuries in a drive-by shooting about noon Friday in the 9700 block of Quitman Street in Westminster, police said.
Two men reportedly fled the scene in a car, although it is unclear whether they were involved in the shooting. About half an hour later, the vehicle was spotted by an Adams County sheriff’s deputy at Coronado Parkway and Downing Street. Police chased the car, with shots fired at officers during the pursuit. No one was injured.
The fleeing car then rammed into a truck at 88th Avenue and Pearl Street. Police said a suspect got out of the car and fired at officers. Officers said they returned fire and the suspect got in the truck, forcibly removed the driver and drove away. The other man was arrested after a brief foot chase, police said.
The fleeing man reportedly left the truck and carjacked a van with an elderly couple inside. Police said the suspect let the couple go and headed south on Washington Street. The couple suffered minor injuries and were not hospitalized.
The van eventually hit a telephone pole near 38th Avenue and Delgany Street. A suspect was taken to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Police on Friday were looking for a third man possibly connected to the shooting. His role was unclear. Police said he is a white man in his 20s with wavy brown hair and was wearing bluejeans and a blue hooded sweat shirt.
He was last seen near 38th and Washington, but police believe he has left the area.
Sgt. Louis Dixon, an Adams County sheriff’s spokesman, was relieved the chase ended as it did. “It was very tense,” Dixon said. “But we’re really thankful that no one was seriously injured. It could have been a lot worse.”
