Colorado Mammoth 2005-06 leading scorer Gavin Prout said Tuesday he has reached an oral agreement on a contract for the upcoming season.
“I haven’t received the paperwork yet, but when I do I’ll sign it and send it to my agent, and if it all looks good he’ll send it in,” Prout said by phone from his insurance job in Toronto. “I’m good to go. It could be minutes, hours or a couple days.”
Prout, who scored 29 goals and made 64 assists while helping the Mammoth win the 2006 National Lacrosse League championship, is eager to defend the title.
“That’s the plan,” he said. “Unfortunately, we lost a couple key guys in Dan Stroup and Chris Gill, but usually there are newcomers to fill the void. Training camp is going to be very competitive.”
Camp opens Nov. 11.
Bersagel honored as NCAA woman of year
Former Greeley Central and Wake Forest standout Anne Bersagel was named 2006 NCAA woman of the year Saturday at an awards dinner in Indianapolis.
The award, one of the NCAA’s most prestigious, honors female athletes who have completed their eligibility and demonstrated academic and athletic excellence as well as community service and leadership.
Bersagel graduated last December, received an NCAA postgraduate scholarship and was named an NCAA Walter Byers Scholar.
A Colorado state finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, Bersagel was a four-time Wake Forest scholar-athlete of the year. She was named most outstanding political science student and judicial student of the year at Wake Forest in 2005. She holds school records in outdoor track for 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
