The mysterious “Richard from Denver” who led off Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke’s coverage of the Stardust Hotel’s final weekend – the $1 billion Echelon Place will rise in the Stardust’s ashes – was none other than my pal Richard Beatty of Centennial.
He’s the regional executive for Paul Arpin Van Lines, and is a big time fan of Sin City, particularly the shows. He knows quite a few of the headliners personally, and acts as an unofficial host to his best buddies, the Four Tops, whenever they’re in town.
Clarke, who used to be the Rocky Mountain News’ man-about-town columnist, noted that Richard wore a tuxedo to the Steve Lawrence/Eydie Gorme show on Saturday night that closed the Stardust showroom. He did so as “a tribute to a bygone era when a show on the Strip was a glamorous occasion,” Clarke wrote about Richard in his Monday column at reviewjournal.com/col umnists/clarke.html.
Some new avenues
Web addresses, such as the one above for Norm Clarke’s column, are going to pop up a lot more as time goes on. With more and more people choosing to get their news from the Web, The Post and other publications nationwide are expanding and enhancing their online content. The columns that I write, for example, can be accessed by visiting denverpost.com/society. Photographs taken at the numerous events that we cover can be viewed at denverpost.com/SeenGallery. And a blog that I write every weekday can be found at denverpostbloghouse.com/
davidson.
Some of the blog posts will be expanded coverage of an event that appears in the Post’s print edition; see, for example, the one I wrote about last Saturday night’s Western Fantasy gala that raised $1.4 million for Volunteers of America. It was posted on Sunday afternoon, and is still available at the Bloghouse.
Looking ahead
