The Colorado 14ers selected Michael Harris with their first pick in the NBA Development League draft Thursday night. Harris, a 6-foot-6 forward, was in training camp with the Milwaukee Bucks this preseason. He played at Rice and spent last season playing for BC Kyiv-Ukraine, averaging 10.4 points.

In the second round, the 14ers chose Von Wafer, a 6-5 guard from Florida State, who played in 16 games for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2005-06. In the ninth round, the 14ers selected former University of Denver standout Rodney Billups, the younger brother of Detroit Pistons star Chauncey Billups. Rodney Billups played 33 games in Latvia last season.

Metro, Mesa win at RMAC volleyball tourney

Stefanie Allison had 27 kills to lead No. 3 Metro State to a come-from-behind 3-2 (22-30, 30-26, 28-30, 30-28, 15-11) win over No. 6 Fort Lewis at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball tournament in Silver City, N.M.

Metro State will face No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney in today’s first semifinal. The Lopers blocked 18 shots in beating No. 7 Colorado-Colorado Springs 3-0 (30-24, 30-21, 30-17).

No. 4 Mesa State got 22 kills from Stacy Vogel and beat No. 5 Regis 3-2 (30-17, 29-31, 30-24, 29-31, 15-11) and will face No. 1 Western New Mexico, which beat No. 8 CSU-Pueblo 3-1 (30-27, 27-30, 30-24, 30-24).

CU men’s hoops team wins exhibition opener

Richard Roby hobbled down the hallway on a balky left leg after Thursday’s exhibition opener. While it was just a leg cramp, the injury suffered in the Buffs’ 97-85 win over Concordia (Montreal) still hurt pretty bad.

Roby crumpled to the floor with 4:14 left in the game, holding his leg, as play went on around him, giving his team a scare. When the game was halted, Roby was helped off the court.

After the game he said it was simply a matter of drinking more Gatorade.

“I need to hydrate better,” Roby said.

Roby led the team with 22 points. He was one of five Colorado players to score in double figures.

Longmont’s Lostroh wins at PBR Worlds

Kody Lostroh of Longmont won the fourth round of bull riding at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, but remains behind Adriano Moraes of Brazil for the rodeo lead.

Lostroh posted a 91.5 score 0n Chumley/Katish’s Dr. Proctor. He has 265 points for the week, leaving him in fourth place. Moraes leads with 348.25 points.
