Denver is among 65 cities where the U.S. Justice Department will monitor elections Nov. 7.
Wan Kim, assistant attorney general for civil rights, told CNN that close races were a factor in determining where to send the more than 800 monitors.
Denver Election Commission spokesman Alton Dillard said the commission was notified Denver had been selected as a site of potential trouble, but he said he did not know why.
