DENVER – The Colorado Public Utilities Commission on Thursday heard the first day of testimony on the proposed settlement of an Xcel Energy electric rate-hike request.
Most of the testimony was from Xcel executive Fred Stoffel explaining and defending the settlement, which would raise residential electric bills by an average of $4.34 a month. Small-business bills would rise by an average of $6.89.
Stoffel is scheduled to testify again today. The settlement was reached after negotiations among Xcel, the staff of the PUC and the Colorado Office of Consumer Counsel.
