PIMP YOUR RIDE
Vehicle magnets
Available at Downtown Drug, Glenwood Springs; Earls Flowers, Loveland; Colorado Gifts, Limon; Fairplay Pharmacy, Fairplay; or ArtForYourCar.com
$3-15
A bumper sticker used to give away the kind of person you are. But those permanently attached rectangles are out of vogue. And the yellow and pink ribbons: earnest but a bit boring. Let the kids choose which decoration best suits your car: paint spatters for that 1980 wagon, flames for that vintage Camero, or flower-power for the VW. The magnets, which are removed easily, come in a variety of themes, including holiday choices.
PASS THE TABASCO
Wildlife repellent
coopext.colostate.edu/wildlife/repellents.htm
Speaking of rodents, squirrels are the most common form of urban wildlife in Colorado, and people tend to love them until their just-planted tulip bulbs become the tastiest squirrel snack ever. Turns out squirrels aren’t real Westerners – coating your bulbs in cayenne pepper will keep the fluffy-tailed critters away. Instead of rags soaked in ammonia or socks filled with mothballs as squirrel deterrent, spray a nontoxic mix of water, dish-washing liquid and bottled hot sauce. Caramba!
