The Broncos’ worst fears came true when it was diagnosed that key reserve safety Sam Brandon has a torn ACL in his knee. Brandon will be out for the rest of the season.

Brandon, who’ll have surgery later this month, is expected to make a full recovery and return next season. He was hurt in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 31-20 win at Pittsburgh when he was accidentally leg-whipped by teammate Demetrin Veal. Curome Cox will take Brandon’s place.

“Sam is in good spirits and looking forward to coming back strong next season,” his agent Michael Hoffman said.
