Douglas County voters were forced to wait as long as three hours today to cast their ballots.
Two of the county’s 29 voting centers, one in the Meadows in Castle Rock and the other at Cherry Hills, were closed for about an hour each because of equipment problems.
“We seeing a disaster in Douglas County,” said Christian Moreau, spokesman for the county Democratic Party, naming a list of polling places with significant waits.
The county Republican Party considered an injunction to keep polls open longer, but dropped the plan when a similar effort failed in Denver this afternoon, a state party official said.
“Everyone will get to vote,” said Mary Niblack, a spokesman for the Douglas County Clerk and Recorders Office. “If 200 people are in line at 7 o’clock, we’ll be here until every one of them votes.”
Election officials said they expected the last voter to come through around 9 p.m., when the count would start.
