LAKEWOOD – A 42-year-old Lakewood man has been found guilty of attempted first-degree murder in the February beating of a 75-year-old woman.
A Jefferson County District Court jury also convicted Ira Vincent Miner on Tuesday of robbery of an at-risk victim and first-degree assault of an at-risk victim.
The victim, Rose Moniak, worked for a business that provides transportation to casinos in Central City and Black Hawk.
Miner was a cook at one of the casinos. Court testimony showed that Miner gambled away half his paycheck and that when he arrived at the bus station in Lakewood, he took $120 from Moniak’s purse.
When Moniak confronted him, Miner hit and kicked her in the head several times and dragged her to a back hallway, leaving blood splatters on 12 feet of wall. He left a shoe imprint on her chest when he stomped on her and then took $230 from the cash drawer.
Moniak suffered head injuries and facial fractures and lost 12 teeth.
Miner, who showed no emotion at the verdict, will be sentenced Jan. 18.
