Colorado voters have passed a constitutional amendment to increase the state’s minimum wage, passing the ballot initiative by a 53 percent to 47 percent margin.
Under Amendment 42, the minimum wage for workers statewide will increase from $5.15 to $6.85 as of Jan. 1.
The wage could eventually surpass $7 per hour, as the amendment tied the wage to inflation.
Support for the amendment was particularly strong in Denver, where 62 percent of voters supported it.
