Two fraternity boys want to make lawsuit against “Borat” over their drunken appearance in the hit movie. The legal action filed Thursday in Santa Monica, Calif., on their behalf claims they were duped into appearing in the spoof documentary, in which they made racist and sexist comments on camera. The young men “engaged in behavior that they otherwise would not have engaged in,” the lawsuit says. “Borat” follows the adventures of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s Kazakh journalist character in a blend of fiction and improvised comic encounters as he travels across the United States and mocks Americans. The plaintiffs were not named in the lawsuit “to protect themselves from any additional and unnecessary embarrassment.” They were identified in the movie as fraternity members from a South Carolina university, and appeared drunk as they made insulting comments about women and minorities to Cohen’s character.
Bob Dylan’s latest album is a hit with critics and music fans, but apparently the legendary singer-songwriter isn’t quite ready for Broadway, or vice versa. “The Times They Are a-Changin,” a musical based on his songs, is to close less than a month after it opened, BBC News reports. The show, the story of a young man working in a struggling circus, was savaged by critics. Dylan approached choreographer Twyla Tharp three years ago after she turned Billy Joel’s songs into Tony-award winning musical “Movin’ Out.” The final show will be Nov. 19. Village Voice columnist Michael Musto called the closing a “mercy killing.” He added: “Dylan and Tharp didn’t cohabit well in a circus setting.”
Actress Rosario Dawson and former “Sex and the City” star Jason Lewis have broken up, Us Weekly reports. The couple began dating in 2004 and had been living together in Hollywood for the past year. “(Dawson) was telling people a few weeks ago that they’re over. She’s really upset,” a source told the magazine. No word on why the couple called their relationship off, but in March, Dawson confided to Britain’s Culture magazine that the attention her boyfriend gets from other women can be difficult to handle. “Every time we go to a party, Jason is soon surrounded by a group of women of all ages,” she said. “They openly put their hands all over him – even between his legs – and ask him out. I am sitting there alongside him, watching all this.”
Daniel Baldwin was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of stealing a sport utility vehicle. The actor was stopped Wednesday by officers in Santa Monica, Calif., who saw him in a white GMC Yukon reported stolen in neighboring Orange County, authorities said. Baldwin was taken to jail and booked for investigation of grand theft auto. Bail was set at $20,000. “The car belongs to an acquaintance of Mr. Baldwin, but he had no permission to take it,” said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County sheriff’s department. A call to Baldwin’s attorney was not immediately returned. The 46-year-old actor, who appeared on the television series “Homicide: Life on the Street,” made news in July when he drove a rented car at more than 80 mph through Los Angeles traffic and crashed into two parked vehicles. In April, he was arrested in Santa Monica for investigation of cocaine possession; prosecutors declined to file felony charges.
Culture Club announced they are postponing a reunion tour, days after criticizing former frontman Boy George. Three founding members of the ’80s pop band – drummer Jon Moss, bassist Mikey Craig and keyboard player Phil Pickett – were due to start a British tour Dec. 7 with singer Sam Butcher replacing George. A statement issued Wednesday by Culture Club manager Tony Gordon said the tour was being postponed until next year so the band could finish recording tracks for a new album. No new dates were announced.
