FORM AND FUNCTION
Getting a full workout at home from a system that occupies a relatively small “footprint” was the goal Precor had in creating Precor’s S3.23 Home Gym. The gym was designed with the industry’s current buzz phrase – functional training – in mind, promising a session that builds strength, balance and coordination by working large groups of muscles in unrestricted motion, rather than isolating a few muscles and working on them individually. It measures 4-feet-5 by 3-feet-2 and is $2,699, or $2,995 with a bench. Visit precor.com for retailers.
TRI HARDER
If your goal is to do a triathlon next year but don’t know where to begin, a training camp might be a good place. South Suburban Parks and Recreation offers a 10-week cross-training class featuring strength exercises and techniques for swimming, cycling and running. Balance, core strength, nutrition and race preparation will be covered. $132, or $120 for those in the district, and they’ll throw in a T-shirt. Classes will be at the Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 S. University Blvd. 303-483-7079; register at www.sspr.org or at 303-347-5999. | MORE HEALTH CALENDAR LISTINGS AT DENVERPOST.COM
SETTING THE PACE
High-tech running clothes have adopted the language of television: The new 180s Quantum Vent jacket offers “on-demand thermal control.” That doesn’t mean you can sit on the couch watching TV, however. The lightweight jacket, with 3M Scotchlite reflective material for night running, allows you to open an oversize rear vent as your body temperature rises and close it as you cool. There’s also a handy rear pocket, suitable for MP3 or iPod, thumbhole loops in the sleeves and a hole for earplugs on the back collar. Easier than undressing and tying layers around your waist on the go. $100. For more information, see 180s.com.
