The magazine offers lists of the best places to do all of these things and many others, based on advice from experts as well as reader surveys.
Best mountain climbs, according to the magazine, are Mount Rainier in Washington (but check out park closure information if you’re planning a trip to the park in the next two months, as officials are trying to repair damage from heavy flooding that took place there in early November); Mount Whitney, Calif.; Grand Teton, Wyo.; Mount Shasta, Calif.; and Mount Hood, Ore.
Best fly-fishing destinations, according to Men’s Journal, are Spring Creeks, south of Livingston, Mont., for trout; Montauk, N.Y., (Long Island) for striped bass (October); San Diego for mako sharks; South Fork of the Snake River, Idaho, for cutthroat trout; and Marquesas Keys, Fla., for tarpon and bonefish in May and June.
Top 10 ski resorts, the magazine says, are Jackson Hole, Wyo., Squaw Valley, Calif., Snowbird/Alta, Utah; Aspen Highlands, Colo., Crested Butte, Colo., Big Sky/Moonlight Basin, Mont., Crystal Mountain, Wash., Bridger Bowl, Mont., Taos Ski Valley, N.M., and Sugar Bowl, Calif.
Best ski bars are The Rusty Nail Bar & Grille, Stowe, Vt.; O’Shucks, Park City, Utah; Eric’s Bar, Aspen, Colo.; the Mangy Moose, Jackson, Wyo.; and Le Chamois & Loft Bar, Squaw Valley, Calif.
Epic bike rides, according to Men’s Journal, are the Porcupine Rim Trail, Moab, Utah; Buellton, Calif., in the wine country of the Santa Ynez Valley; Bootleg Canyon, Boulder City, Nevada; Brandon Gap, Killington, Vt., and Buffalo Creek Trail, Pine, Colo.
