RENO, Nev.-

A system dropped 4 inches of snow over the weekend on higher elevations around Lake Tahoe, and more snow was on the way.

Scott McGuire, a National Weather Service forecaster in Reno, said systems also were expected to bring a chance of snow to the region Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

“We’re kind of hanging tight right now on how much snow we’ll be getting out of them,” McGuire said. “But the seasons are transitioning. We’re getting there” toward winter.

Alpine Meadows ski resort just north of Lake Tahoe reported 4 inches of snow on Saturday. But like other area resorts, it’s hoping for more snow to make its traditional opening by Thanksgiving Day.

The latest system was accompanied by wind gusts of up to 116 mph at Slide Mountain above Reno and 63 mph in Reno, according to the weather service.
