Amber Farney and Jesse Tolliver’s love story plays like a big-screen romantic comedy, a la “Legally Blonde.”

Remember the dashing delivery guy? That’s Tolliver. But rather than a beauty parlor, Farney works at the Arapahoe Community College bookstore, which gets two visits per day from UPS, one for deliveries, one for pick-ups.

Both dated other people when Farney first took the job after moving to Colorado from North Dakota in 2002. Over time, those relationships ended, and Farney’s responsibilities took her away from the storeroom.

That left Fridays, the receiving person’s day off. “I always had to look my best on Fridays,” says Farney, 24, who admits, with a giggle, to bending over a bit more than required to move boxes.

As Tolliver made small talk, Farney dropped shameless – and exaggerated – hints about a lack of social plans. That went on for a month, maybe two.

Finally, in late 2004, Tolliver asked for her phone number. “She whips out this pencil and paper, right there,” laughs Tolliver, 33.

As the romance bloomed, Farney developed keen ears for Tolliver’s arrival. “People used to make fun of me all the time,” Farney says.

Truly giddy, Farney and Tolliver married in a ceremony led by officiant Michael Murphy, who compared tending a marriage to tending a campfire. He also advised the couple to protect their love “from a culture that isn’t always supportive of marriage.”

Just over 100 guests observed at the Overlook Event Center in Littleton as the couple then recited personal vows – Tolliver with a measured cadence and irreverent message, Farney with a speed and enthusiasm attributable to sheer joy.

They walked back up the aisle to “Jessie’s Girl” to complete their movie-like love story.
