The 2006 Mayor’s Design Awards, which celebrate design in all forms, have recognized 16 projects that have made a contribution to Denver’s design and architecture.
The awards include the “Jurassic Leaves” sculpture at the new light-rail station at East Louisiana Avenue and Buchtel Boulevard, and website Denverinfill.com, which congregates information about properties in the core city.
Fourteen developments and redevelopments were also named, including:
The Tattered Cover Book Store at 2526 E. Colfax Ave.; nine10arts, an arts community center at 910 Santa Fe Drive; homes at 881 S. Gilpin St. and 2050 Race St.; Cry Baby Ranch, a boutique at 1421 Larimer St.; and 1600 Glenarm, an apartment/retail conversion of the former Security Life building at 1600 Glenarm Place.
Also honored were: WeilWorks, an art gallery at 3611 Chestnut Place; Tocotlan, a restaurant at 1130 S. Federal Blvd.; Streamline Auto Repair, 800 Kalamath St.; a studio/office infill project at 3528 Tejon St.; the District, a new transit-oriented development at 6300 E. Hampden Ave.; Steuben’s, a neighborhood cafe at 523 E. 17th Ave.; Tables, a restaurant at 2267 Kearney St.; and Merchant’s Row, an infill project at East 26th Avenue and Champa Street.
