Time|Holiday tips
Weiman Home Care Products and Tara Aronson, the author of “Mrs. Clean Jeans’ Housekeeping With Kids” (Rodale, $14.95), teamed up to devise these tips for holiday housekeeping sanity:
Pick a single room to keep clean when time prohibits keeping the entire house ready for drop-in visitors.
Always have tea and coffee on hand. Other holiday pantry must-haves include baked goods, fruits and cheeses, wine, veggies, nuts, miniature frozen quiches and bottled water.
Shine specialty surfaces like glass, granite and stainless steel with specialty cleaners made for those surfaces in order to quickly remove streaks, grime and fingerprints.
Energy|Idle time
Activate your computer’s power-management feature to power down when the computer is idle. Depending on the home, this can save between $25 and $75 a year in energy costs, according to the Environmental Protection Agency and Energy Star.
Money|Crafty
Quick & Simple magazine offers this idea for creating a fetching Thanksgiving tablescape on a budget: Make your own fall-themed napkin rings using raffia and dried wheat sprigs.
Space|Think small
Petite individual flower arrangements placed inside candle votives on the Thanksgiving table not only look pretty, they retain enough space on that table for copious dishes and gravy boats, the editors at Quick & Simple note.
