The man charged in the Nov. 10 hit-and-run tragedy that killed a mother and her two children will seek to move the case out of Denver because of the heavy news coverage here, his attorney says.

Larry Trujillo, 36, of Westminster was advised Friday morning he was being held on 11 charges, including six vehicular-homicide counts: three for allegedly driving drunk and three for driving recklessly.

He also faces four counts of hit and run as well as misdemeanor assault in the crash that killed Rebecca Bingham, 39, 4-year-old Macie and 2-year-old Garrison in a crosswalk at 15th and Arapahoe streets.

Frank Bingham, Rebecca’s husband and the children’s father, was injured in the crash but survived.

Trujillo covered his face as several newspaper photographers and television cameras zoomed in on him when he entered a glassed holding area attached to the court.

Trujillo’s attorney, Robert Bernhardt, said he will file a motion to seek a change of venue because of extensive media coverage of the deaths in the Denver area.

He also intends to seek a bail reduction from the current $250,000 amount, he said.

Eric Phil Snell, 35, of Parker, who police say was a passenger in the pickup that killed the three family members, is also under investigation for allegedly helping to cover up the accident.

Several members of Trujillo’s family attended the hearing, Bernhardt said.

“These are very, very nice people,” he said of Trujillo’s family. “Everybody involved in this case feels an enormous amount of shock and sympathy (because of) what happened.”
