A truck-mounted crane with faulty hydraulics crashed into the underside of a concrete bridge on West Sixth Avenue just as rush hour got underway this afternoon.
The bridge at Knox Court received heavy damage with concrete knocked loose and reinforcing bar exposed.
A spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation said two of the four eastbound lanes on Sixth Avenue would be closed for about six hours. However, the southbound lanes on Knox Court will be closed for at least several months while repairs are made.
Spokeswoman Mindy Crane said the crane’s hydraulics somehow lifted the boom as the truck approached the bridge. The driver, unidentified, received minor injuries, she said.
The owner of the crane, who also was unidentified, will be responsible for damages to the bridge and roadway, she said.
