Durango – The La Plata County district attorney said a Wisconsin firefighter likely would face manslaughter or homicide charges because the Fort Lewis College student he allegedly punched Oct. 28 in a Taco Bell parking lot died Wednesday night from head injuries.
According to a police report, Matthew Marcus Kispert, 24, of De Pere, Wis., said he hit Jonathan Parker Sheppard, 24, who fell backward and hit his head on the asphalt. Sheppard has been in critical condition since the incident.
Kispert, initially charged with felony assault, was free on $3,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Dec. 11.
