John Martin dredging
Colorado Division of Wildlife officials don’t anticipate a major disturbance of waterfowl from an impending dredging operation at John Martin Reservoir. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project near the dam is aimed at exploring sediment deposits through December. It will take place in an area reserved as a resting zone for waterfowl, particularly snow and Canada geese. Steve Keefer, district wildlife manager in Las Animas, anticipates that waterfowl simply will shift toward the western end of the reservoir when the equipment is in use, causing little disruption in migration or hunting activity.
