Aspen – A lack of snow and warm temperatures in Europe may bring bonus World Cup racing to Colorado resorts in early December.
A women’s downhill and super combined scheduled for Dec. 9-10 in St. Moritz, Switzerland, was canceled Saturday. A men’s downhill and super combined that weekend in Val d’Isere, France, also are threatened.
The men race four days this week at Beaver Creek, while the women race at Lake Louise, Alberta.
Under one possible scenario, the downhills previously assigned to St. Moritz and Val d’Isere would be rescheduled in Europe, while both super combined races would be held in Aspen the second week in December.
To make it work, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association must secure sponsors to cover prize money, lodging and meals for racers and their coaches. A decision is expected by this evening.
