Stanford, Calif. – Stanford’s Robin Lopez scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Anthony Goods made three 3-pointers on the way to 11 points in the Cardinal’s 82-39 victory over cold-shooting Denver on Saturday at the Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (4-1) began the second half with a 26-5 run – including a 21-0 stretch – that quickly turned the game into a rout.
Lawrence Hill added 11 points and Landry Fields 12 for Stanford, which shot 51 percent, held Denver to 14 field goals and committed only nine turnovers. The Cardinal has won two in a row since a 79-45 loss to Air Force in the second round of the CBE Classic on Nov. 15.
Tyler Bullock scored 12 points for the Pioneers (1-4). Denver went 8:13 without scoring in the second half before Bullock’s basket with 9:14 remaining. The Pioneers shot 29 percent and had 15 turnovers.
SEATTLE UNIVERSITY 54, REGIS 51: Seattle went on a 22-7 run in the second half, then held off a late rally to top the Rangers at the Regis Fieldhouse. Regis’ Geremey Gibson twice cut the Seattle lead to one in the final two minutes, but Seattle’s Sam Kirby hit four free throws in the final minute for the win. Gibson led Regis (2-1) with 16 points and six rebounds.
CU-COLORADO SPRINGS 85, MENLO 68 at Colorado Springs: Patrick Hannaway scored 29 points and Colorado-Colorado Springs downed Menlo to win the Colorado College Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament at Reid Gymnasium.
Women
TEXAS TECH 67, DENVER 53 at Honolulu: Texas Tech got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Alesha Robertson and routed Denver in the Rainbow Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tyesha Lowery led the Pioneers (1-2) with 11 points and Sara Benham scored 10. Denver shot 0-for-13 from 3-point range and hit 15-of-26 from the free-throw line. Texas Tech (3-2) had a 48-31 rebounding advantage and led by as many as 17 points.
WYOMING 80, NEVADA 71 at Boulder: Paced by 23 points from Hanna Zavecz, Wyoming (5-1) won its third consecutive game and downed Nevada (3-2) in the Coors Classic at the Coors Events Center on the University of Colorado campus. Five players finished in double figures for Wyoming, as Dominique Sisk added a career-high 16 points.
METRO STATE 74, MIDWESTERN STATE 41: Two players scored in double figures for Metro State, led by Anne-Marie Torp’s 17 points and Cassondra Bratton’s 13 points as Metro State topped Midwestern State in the Red Lion Inn Thanksgiving Classic at the Auraria Events Center.
