Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper charged a group of community leaders with finding ways to foster the development of creative spaces. After nearly a year of work, the group will release its findings today.
The mayor’s 21-member Task Force on Creative Spaces will unveil its report, Space Matters, at one such site, the historic Oriental Theater at 4335 W. 44th Ave. The party starts at 5 p.m.
“The goal was to look at the issue of creative space in a comprehensive way,” said Ginger White, senior economic-development specialist in Denver’s Office of Cultural Affairs. “We need to preserve what’s available and expand and foster creative nodes.”
Rather than concentrate on geographic areas, the group focused on finding solutions that can be applied anywhere, White said.
