International law firm Fulbright & Jaworski LLP has opened a Denver office and hired high-profile oil and gas official Ken Wonstolen.
The firm’s Denver office will specialize in representing energy-industry clients.
Wonstolen currently serves as senior vice president and general counsel of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association. His seven years at the association have made him a well-recognized figure within the industry and with politicians and government officials that regulate the sector.
Wonstolen will join the firm Jan. 1.
“By combining forces with Fulbright, a firm known for its energy expertise, I’m better able to serve the industry I’ve dedicated my career to,” Wonstolen said.
Fulbright’s Denver office opened two weeks ago, staffed by three of the firm’s veteran attorneys, Jeff Dykes, Poe Leggette and Bret Sumner.
Dykes, who will head the Denver office, said regional demand for energy legal services is growing fast.
“Energy firms want to drill in the Rockies because there are enormous gas reserves,” he said. “There are numerous hurdles to get over in leasing, getting permits and environmental issues.”
Fulbright has more than 1,000 lawyers in 16 locations worldwide. About 250 of the lawyers are energy specialists.
