Inside Lacrosse magazine has tabbed the University of Denver men’s team as No. 14 in the country in its preseason rankings released Tuesday.
The Pioneers return 27 players from the 2006 squad that recorded the best season (12-5) in DU history and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time. Defending national champion Virginia earned the No. 1 ranking, followed by Johns Hopkins. DU will open its season on the road against three top-25 teams in February: No. 6 Duke, No. 17 Penn State and No. 21 North Carolina.
Bolerjack leads Cowgirls’ basketball victory
The Wyoming Cowgirls beat Idaho State 79-58 on Tuesday, led by Jodi Bolerjack, who scored 22 points that included six 3-pointers. The Cowgirls (6-1) had four players in double figures.
Freshman Talmai Aguirre scored 33 points to lead the Colorado Christian women’s basketball team to an 88-69 victory over Colorado College.
Rage gets shootout win over New Mexico
Anders Strome scored two goals, including the tying goal with less than three minutes remaining, and Bret DeCecco and Matic Kralj scored in the shootout to give the Rocky Mountain Rage a 4-3 Central Hockey League win over New Mexico in Broomfield.
