The driver of an SUV was killed early this morning in east Denver when he drove into the side of a trash truck making its rounds. A passenger in the SUV was critically injured.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene on Colfax Avenue and Ivanhoe Street and the passenger was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, said John White, Denver police spokesman.
The identities of the two men have not been released pending notification of family members, White said.
Just after 2 a.m., today, the driver was in an Izuzu Rodeo eastbound on Colfax traveling at a high speed when he struck the right side of the trash truck, which was blocking two lanes of traffic, he said.
